Let M be a compact manifold with boundary. If M is connected, let XC(M) be the SL2(C)–character variety of M. If not, take XC(M) to be the cartesian product of the character varieties of its components. Throughout, S is a closed connected oriented hyperbolic surface, T(S) its Teichmüller space. By the Uniformization Theorem, T(S) is both the space of marked conformal structures on S and the space of marked hyperbolic structures on S; we blur the distinction between these two descriptions, letting context indicate the desired one. The variety XC(S) contains the space AH(S) of hyperbolic structures on S×R. By the work of A. Marden [20] and D. Sullivan [33], the interior of AH(S) is the space of quasifuchsian groups QF(S), and QF(S) lies in the smooth part of XC(S)—though AH(S) sits more naturally in the PSL2(C)–character variety of S, and has many lifts to the variety XC(S), we content ourselves with XC(S), as our arguments apply to any lift considered. We refer the reader to [14] for a detailed treatment of the PSL2(C)– character variety. The quasifuchsian groups are parameterized by the product of Teichmüller spaces T(S)×T(S), by the Simultaneous Uniformization Theorem of L. Bers [2], and the Bers slice BY is the set

Computation Slicing: Techniques and Theory
We generalize the notion of slice introduced in our earlier paper [6]. A slice of a distributed computation with respect to a global predicate is the smallest computation that contains all consistent cuts of the original computation that satisfy the predicate. We prove that slice exists for all global predicates. We also establish that it is, in general, NP-complete to compute the slice. An opt...
متن کاملSpherical Blend Skinning on GPU
Skeletal animation is commonly used for real-time animation of humans, animals, etc. There are several methods available for propagating a skeleton pose to a skin mesh, but unfortunately, one of the most commonly used methods, linear blend skinning, has inconvenient artifacts. It is, however, a simple and very fast method, and it can easily be implemented on a GPU. An improved skinning method, ...

متن کاملSIGGRAPH Course 2014 — Skinning: Real-time Shape Deformationart III: Example-based Shape Deformation v1.01
Example-based skinning approaches generate skinning and other effects by interpolating a set of sculpted or scanned examples of the desired deformation, where the interpolation happens in a “pose space” defined by the joint angles and other degrees of freedom of the creature rig. The example-based approaches are distinguished by two main ideas: 1. Skinning usually specifies the deformed positio...
متن کاملOptimized CPU-based Skinning for 3D Games
Introduction Lifelike 3D character models play an increasingly important role in many computer games. Organic models, such as people, are more complex to render than rigid bodies because the mesh that defines the shape of the model constantly changes as the model animates. This animating mesh is referred to as a ‘skin’ since it’s influenced by the underlying structure of the object; ‘skinning’ ...
